Before pelvic floor physical therapy became my professional passion, I, like many others, thought it was common for women to make comments such as: “Everyone leaks a little when they sneeze.” “I can’t jump on the trampoline or I will pee my pants.” “It’s normal to have painful sex after you have babies. It will get better.” “Painful periods are normal, that’s why God didn’t make men child-bearing." And, my personal favorite, “I laughed so hard the tears ran down my leg.” All of these comments, while sometimes comforting for the uncomfortable situation, are absolutely NOT true! After I graduated into the wonderful world of motherhood, I became more frustrated with the unsolicited and often harmful information I was given regarding my body, my healing process, and the importance of rehabilitating my core and pelvic floor after each pregnancy.
